homepage history
Milian's Doom Site is online since the end of 2003.
It has always been a playground for my development in webdesign. It's the place where I
experiment with HTML, PHP, databases and layout in general.
Let's take a trip into the history of this...
The first version of my site was very simple. Its only purpose was to provide some information
about my first bigger megawad project, "The Cult".
I didn't know anything about HTML and just built the page in StarOffice.
As I didn't know anyone from the Doom community and mapping was only for me and some friends, this
site was in german and contained 4 pages only.
This is how it looked like:
In 2004, I started to play ZDaemon. I made some friends there and made my first deathmatch maps.
With development of "The Zodiac Deathmatch"
and "The Nutty Wad" people happened to ask
for information about the maps and projects.
Meanwhile, my knowledge of HTML and PHP (and English!) had vastly increased, so, by the end of 2004,
I enhanced the Doom section of my homepage. It now gave information about me
and my projects. The coding was all by myself, though it was very simple, cause I still didn't put too
much weight on this branch of my homepage.
This version was online until March 2005, when I gave the site a major relaunch and added some graphics. Plus, I added a forum to the site.
The homepage kept growing, the number of pages increased constantly (at this moment there are 58 different
pages) and structure of files and styles became more and more chaotic.
That's why in May, I decided again to rebuild the whole project. The pages were now based on databases,
care and handling of the pages were much easier, so I could add features more easily. New sections like
the SP reviews and a "Hall of Fame" for "The Nutty Wad"
were added.
It's July 2005 now, there's not much left to do with the structure or content of the site. So I started to work intensely on artwork, design and layout. This work is in progress and I hope, you'll enjoy the new look of it. Until the next relaunch...
Two years later, I still like the design of the homepage. Only some minor things have been changed over time: you can leave comments to the news now, for example, some pages, like the news and the download section, got a clearer layout, the title has been redesigned and the forums have a new style. Most of these enhancements have been done in february and march 2007.
